Our compassion, integrity, accountability, and resilience define us as leaders in pediatric specialty care for our children and their families.With 20+ hospitals, outpatient clinics, ambulatory care centers and outreach locations across the globe, we provide excellent care to children up to age 18 regardless of their family's ability to pay or insurance status.Job Summary The Health Information Management Specialist ensures the accurate, complete, and timely processing and maintenance of patient health information in accordance with Shriners Hospitals for Children policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations. This role supports quality patient care by providing readily accessible and reliable health records.Key ResponsibilitiesEnsures appropriate Release of Information procedures are followed as required by SHC policies, and state/federal confidentiality regulations, including HIPAA and HITECH.Ensures authorizations for release of health information are HIPAA compliant and releases patient information in accordance with minimum necessary guidelines.Accurately preps, validate and scan paper medical record documents into the EMR within 48 hours of discharge or patient visit.Monitors, assists, and follows up with physicians and other hospital staff in completion of deficiencies in the medical record, compiles, verifies data and prepares reports regarding patient related statistics and distributes/posts data.Assists in answering department calls and routes to appropriate area.Responding to customer queries in a timely and accurate way, via phone, email, or fax.Required QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GEDOne year healthcare experience in medical records processing operation, physician office, business office and/or customer servicePreferred QualificationsRegistered Health Information Technician(RHIT) through AHIMARegistered Health Information Administrator(RHIA)Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
